What is the Spindle?
It is the
rotating shaft driving the workpiece or tool to be machined on the machine
tool. It normally comprises of components such as the mandrel, the spindle bearings, and
transmission components mounted on the shaft.
Power Transmission Mode of the Spindle
transmission of the spindle can be classified into the following types:
1. Gear Transmission
Advantages: Allows greater torque output when used with a gear box, suitable for heavy cutting processing
Disadvantages: When gears are in motion, there is a lot of vibration, noise and heat generated, unsmooth high-speed rotations.
2. Belt Transmission
Advantages: Has smaller vibration as compared to gear transmission for easy assembly
Disadvantages: The belt has a tendency to slip at high-speed transmissions, minor installation errors can generate a lot of vibration and noise, or lead to large spindle deviations.
3. Direct Transmission
Advantages: Rigid connection for higher machine efficiency
Disadvantages: Unsmooth high-speed rotations, large spindle deviations, poor processing precision.
4.Built-in Motor Transmission
Advantages: Low vibration, high-speed rotation, high processing precision
Disadvantages: Large bearing span, poor rigidity, the heating of the coil will easily cause the spindle to increase in temperature.
Spindle and Tool Clamping System
Series-connected and parallel-connected disc spring combinations connected
through the lever are used to grip the bolts of the tool handle with the clamping
segments, allowing the diagonal surface of the tool to be in close contact with
the diagonal surface of the spindle bore and forming sufficient interface
grippers are classified into BERG, OTT, and ROHM, amongst which BERG grippers
are external jaw grippers while OTT and ROHM are internal jaw grippers.
Pneumatic grippers are suitable for use with short spindles that require
high-speed heavy cutting or precision cutting. Pneumatic grippers are also
classified into external jaw and internal jaw grippers. The most common type of
internal jaw grippers is the HSK series.
